About this tool
The UnblockPDF Repair tool fixes damaged or corrupted PDF files that cannot be opened, displayed, or processed normally. The repair process runs on the server side, where advanced recovery algorithms analyze the internal structure of the corrupted file and attempt to reconstruct it into a valid, readable PDF document. PDF corruption can occur for many reasons including incomplete downloads, interrupted file transfers, storage media failures, software crashes during PDF creation, email attachment corruption, and incompatible PDF generators. The repair tool addresses the most common types of damage including corrupted file headers, broken cross-reference tables, damaged page tree structures, invalid object references, missing or malformed metadata, and truncated content streams. The repair process works in multiple stages. First, the tool scans the file to identify the type and extent of corruption. It then attempts to rebuild the internal PDF structure by locating valid objects, reconstructing the cross-reference table, repairing the page tree hierarchy, and validating content streams. For files with minor corruption such as damaged headers or broken cross-references, the tool typically achieves a complete recovery. For more severely damaged files, it recovers as much content as possible and creates a valid PDF from the recoverable portions. The repaired output preserves all recoverable content including text, images, vector graphics, fonts, bookmarks, hyperlinks, and annotations. The visual appearance of recovered pages should match the original in most cases. The tool provides feedback on the repair process, indicating which issues were found and resolved. Common use cases include recovering PDFs from failed downloads or interrupted transfers, fixing files that display error messages when opened in PDF readers, repairing documents damaged by storage device failures or data corruption, recovering PDFs created by malfunctioning or non-standard PDF generators, and salvaging archived documents that have degraded over time. The repaired output can be downloaded immediately or further processed with other UnblockPDF tools. The tool supports files up to 50 MB for anonymous users and 100 MB for registered accounts.

Tips for best results
- Try opening the repaired PDF in multiple viewers such as Adobe Reader, Chrome, and Preview to verify the recovery quality.
- After repairing, use the Compress tool to optimize the file size, as repaired PDFs sometimes contain redundant internal data.
- Keep the original corrupted file as a backup in case future repair tools can extract additional content from it.
- For recurring corruption from the same source, consider converting the original files to PDF/A format for more robust long-term storage.
Good to know
Severely damaged files where most internal data is lost may only be partially recoverable. The tool cannot reconstruct content that has been completely destroyed.
