About this tool

The UnblockPDF Split tool allows you to divide a PDF document into multiple smaller files or extract specific pages into a new document. The entire splitting process takes place inside your browser, ensuring that your files never leave your device. This is particularly important when working with confidential documents such as contracts, medical records, or financial reports where data privacy is paramount. After uploading your PDF, the tool renders a thumbnail preview of every page so you can visually identify the content you want to extract. You can select individual pages by clicking on their thumbnails, specify page ranges using notation like 1-5 or 3,7,10-12, or choose to split the document into equal parts of a defined number of pages each. The tool handles all standard PDF versions and preserves the original quality of every extracted page without re-encoding or compressing the content. The split operation maintains each page's original dimensions, embedded fonts, vector graphics, and raster images at their native resolution. Internal links that point to pages within the same extracted range continue to function correctly. Bookmarks associated with the extracted pages are carried over to the new document when applicable. Typical use cases include extracting a specific chapter from a textbook, pulling out a signed page from a multi-page contract, separating individual statements from a combined bank document, or creating handout subsets from a large presentation deck. The extracted files can be downloaded individually or further processed with other UnblockPDF tools such as Merge, Compress, or the PDF Editor. Anonymous users can process files up to 50 MB, while registered users benefit from a 100 MB limit. The tool works across all modern browsers on desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms without requiring any software installation or browser extension.

Common use cases

Extract a specific chapter or section from a lengthy textbook or manual PDF
Pull out signed pages from a multi-page contract for separate filing needs
Separate individual bank statements bundled together in a single combined document
Create presentation handout subsets by extracting only the relevant slides from a deck
Isolate appendices or exhibits from a legal filing for independent review and distribution

Tips for best results

  • Use the page range notation like 1-5,8,10-12 for efficient selection instead of clicking each page thumbnail individually.
  • After splitting, use the Merge tool to recombine extracted pages with other documents into a new arrangement.
  • For password-protected PDFs, run the Unlock tool first before attempting to split the document into parts.
  • Check the page thumbnails carefully before splitting to ensure you are extracting the correct content from the right pages.

Good to know

Splitting does not work on password-protected PDFs without first unlocking them. Very large files above the size limit may need to be compressed beforehand.
