Prepare Your Lease
Open your lease PDF in our editor. Navigate to the signature lines and add your signature. In addition to the signature, lease agreements typically require you to handwrite the place and date. Use the text box tool to place these details directly alongside your signature. Also check whether your initials are required on each page — these can be quickly added with the signature tool as well.
Typical Lease Signing Workflow
1. Receive the contract: The landlord or property management company sends you the lease agreement as a PDF by email.
2. Review the document: Read all clauses carefully. Use the highlight tool to mark important sections for yourself — you can remove these highlights before sending the document back.
3. Sign: Place your signature on the signature page and enter the date and location.
4. Attach supporting documents: If you need to include a handover protocol, tenant self-disclosure, or proof of income, use the Merge tool to bundle everything into one file.
5. Send back: Download the signed PDF and email it back to the landlord.
Protect the Signed Lease
After signing, consider flattening the PDF to make the signatures permanent. This ensures that your signature cannot be moved or deleted afterward. For additional security, you can add password protection to prevent unauthorized modifications to the document.
Special Notes for Lease Agreements
For shared apartments, multiple tenants often need to sign. Each roommate can open the PDF in the editor one after another and add their own signature. Make sure each person uses a clearly distinguishable signature. If the landlord also wants to sign the document digitally, send them the flattened version so they can add their signature without affecting the existing ones. All processing happens locally in your browser, so even sensitive rental documents and personal information remain completely private.
